Russia is ready in principle to resume talks with Ukraine and the United States on ending the conflict. According to President Vladimir Putin’s chief aide Yuriy Ushakov, Moscow will consider a new round of negotiations after a brief three‑hour meeting in St Petersburg between Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff.

Ushakov said a new trilateral discussion could take place as early as 10 November, stressing that the focus must be on constructing a security system for Russia and Ukraine after hostilities conclude. Kyiv has been urging an immediate resumption of talks, which were suspended in February over Ukrainian airstrikes that Moscow blamed for disrupting the process.

Ushakov added that the proposals presented by the U.S., Ukraine, Norway and Finland were not very useful, hinting that the next round of talks will be more substantive. The previous negotiations, which aimed to halt the war that erupted in 2022, had stalled amid claims by the Kremlin of massive Ukrainian‑initiated strikes. The upcoming talks will seek to address both immediate ceasefire terms and longer‑term security arrangements for the region.
