A 39‑year‑old man suspected of a fatal shooting near Paris has been transferred to a psychiatric observation unit, French anti‑terrorism officials said.

The attack, which began in Trappes and then moved to nearby La Verrière, left one person killed and five others injured, including a 12‑year‑old girl who was in critical condition.

PNAT said investigators placed the suspect under observation to assess his mental state, a step that could last up to 48 hours and determine whether he will remain in police custody.

The suspect, identified in the press as Kevin T, reportedly had cannabis and cocaine in his bloodstream. Authorities also uncovered a Bible, a Quran and a copy of Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf at his home, a source close to the investigation revealed.

President Emmanuel Macron termed the shooting a “racist terrorist attack” and warned that the victims were targeted because of their skin colour or religion.

The lone fatality, Pengo Bossio Wangi, a 26‑year‑old French‑Congolese martial‑artist, was a respected member of his local mixed‑martial‑arts club, which paid tribute to him after the tragedy.

Three injured victims were taken to hospital in serious condition; the mayor of La Verrière reported that the child’s mother confirmed the girl was “doing better”, though she remained in critical care.
