In brief

Leanne Gregory, a mother from England, drowned while rescuing her sons during a snorkeling outing in Bimini, Bahamas. The boys were saved but the tragedy was deemed not a result of foul play. Her husband described her as an absolute hero and has launched a fundraising effort for their children. The incident highlighted the dangers of strong currents and the bravery that can arise in emergencies.

Leanne Gregory, a 36‑year‑old British mother from Stapleford, England, drowned while sparring with her children on the Caribbean island of Bimini in the Bahamas. The Royal Bahamas Police Force confirmed that the boys were pulled from the water but the mother could not be revived.

Her husband, Nathan, described her as “the purest, most amazing wife, mother and friend” and said he will never recover from the loss. He has set up a fundraising page to support their sons and to ensure their safety and wellbeing after the tragedy.

Police said the tragedy was caused by a strong current that swept the family away and stated that foul play was not suspected. The United Kingdom’s Foreign Office will provide support to the family, recalling the Royal Bahamas’ prompt rescue efforts.

The grief‑stricken family expressed heartfelt thanks to the Bahamas authorities and pledged to honour Leanne’s legacy by keeping the children safe.
