MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Morgan Geyser, the Wisconsin woman who was released from a mental institution after nearly killing her sixth-grade classmate as part of a bizarre pact to impress the horror character Slender Man, is now facing serious repercussions after recently fleeing her group home in Wisconsin.
In a court hearing on Tuesday, Geyser agreed not to contest her extradition from Cook County Jail in Illinois back to Wisconsin, where authorities could revoke her conditional release and send her back to the facility where she spent most of her past eight years. Geyser was initially granted conditional release this past September after submitting several requests for it.
Her flight sparked significant media attention, as police reports revealed that Geyser cut off her GPS monitoring bracelet and escaped her Madison home with a 43-year-old friend. They were found sleeping on a sidewalk outside a truck stop in Posen, Illinois, before being taken into custody.
Geyser's companion, who has not been named pending charges, stated that they recently became close at church and expressed concern for Geyser, describing her as someone determined to move on from her past actions.
During their arrest, body camera footage shows Geyser clinging to a stuffed dog toy and pleading with officers not to separate her from her friend, providing a glimpse into her emotional state.
As the story unfolds, it raises questions about the complexities of Morgan Geyser's journey from a troubled past towards seeking redemption, and what the future holds for her now that she has crossed a critical legal boundary again.
