Roberto Mazzarella, a mafia boss wanted for murder, has been arrested at a luxury villa on the Amalfi Coast after more than a year on the run, Italian police have reported.
According to the Carabinieri military police, Mazzarella had escaped in January 2025, shortly before he was set to be arrested on murder charges.
The 48-year-old was captured in Vietri sul Mare, a well-known resort town, and is recognized as a powerful figure within the Camorra organized crime group in Naples—considered one of Italy's most dangerous fugitives.
At the time of his arrest, Mazzarella was with his wife and two children but did not resist law enforcement officials.
Police reported that a number of patrol boats were deployed to assist in the operation, surrounding the villa and preventing any escape attempts.
Footage from the arrest has been released, showing heavily armed officers entering the luxury property. Authorities seized three luxury watches, approximately €20,000 in cash, false documents, and mobile devices.
The Mazzarella clan is notorious for counterfeiting activities, particularly banknote forgery in Naples.
In a recent development, law enforcement detained 16 individuals linked to the Mazzarella organization involved in cyber fraud.
Reports from Italy's Ansa news agency indicate that Mazzarella had been living under an assumed identity while residing in the villa.
