Man Arrested Over Plot to Firebomb Activist's Home
A 26-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly planning to carry out a violent attack against a New York-based pro-Palestinian activist, authorities say.
Activist Nerdeen Kiswani reported receiving a warning from federal authorities about the threat to her life. The accused, Alexander Heifler, was apprehended in New Jersey and charged with unlawful possession and making destructive devices, following the discovery of eight Molotov cocktails in his residence.
The motive for Heifler's planned attack remains unclear. Described as an extremist without a prior criminal record, he is not believed to have ties to any terrorist organization.
New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch emphasized the seriousness of the investigation, stating it uncovered a plot by Heifler to target Kiswani, who has vocally opposed Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories. This incident reportedly began during a video call on February 10, where Heifler discussed attacking Kiswani's home.
Following his arrest, Mayor Zohran Mamdani condemned the act as a chilling attempt at political violence and linked Heifler to the Jewish Defense League, an organization recognized as violent by the FBI. Kiswani, co-founder of Within Our Lifetime, has faced extensive harassment, citing far-right groups' sustained efforts to intimidate her and her fellow activists.
