In brief

A 40‑year‑old keeper at Beekse Bergen zoo in the south of the Netherlands died days after a violent attack by two Persian leopards. She sustained serious head and neck injuries during the incident, and despite emergency surgery she fell into a coma and died on Tuesday. An independent investigation has been launched, as the enclosure lacked internal CCTV. The enclosures were temporarily closed to staff during severe weather, prompting the animals to be moved indoors. Park officials say the leopards behaved naturally and will not be euthanised. A memorial space will be established for staff and visitors to pay respects.
