The Louvre Museum in Paris is currently closed as authorities investigate a shocking robbery that targeted France's crown jewels. Thieves, equipped with power tools, broke into the world-renowned museum in broad daylight, escaping on scooters with eight highly valuable pieces of jewelry.

The incident took place shortly after the museum opened to visitors on October 20, 2025. The thieves used a vehicle-mounted mechanical lift to access the Galerie d'Apollon and threatened guards after cutting through the glass to enter the museum.

Despite the precarious nature of the heist, police reported that one-third of the area raided had no CCTV cameras. This revelation has led to an outcry regarding the museum’s security protocols, which were criticized by politicians and cultural figures alike.

Among the stolen items are diadems, necklaces, and brooches, all historically significant as they belonged to former French royalty. Some pieces, including Empress Eugenie's crown, were found abandoned nearby, leaving two of the stolen items still missing. Security experts warn that the thieves may dismantle the pieces to sell the valuable materials separately.

France's culture minister stated that the robbery reflects a larger issue regarding national heritage preservation and has called for immediate reforms in museum security systems. Meanwhile, the Louvre remains closed, with visitors receiving refunds for booked tickets.
