Intensified Hostilities as India and Pakistan Exchange Fire
Recent conflicts between India and Pakistan escalate sharply, with both nations accusing each other of targeting military installations.
The conflict between India and Pakistan escalated significantly over the weekend, with both nations launching attacks on military installations and exchanging accusations over who initiated the hostilities. Pakistan reported that India struck at least three air bases, including the critical Nur Khan facility near Islamabad, utilizing air-to-surface missiles in the early hours of Saturday. Eyewitnesses described hearing multiple explosions and seeing a substantial fireball illuminating the night.
In retaliation, Pakistan asserted that it fired short-range surface-to-surface missiles at Indian locations, specifically targeting the Udhampur and Pathankot air bases, as well as a missile storage site. The Pakistani military emphasized their response as an "eye for an eye."
Conversely, India indicated that their strikes on Pakistani military targets, including radar locations, were a direct response to an earlier air assault by Pakistan that utilized drones and conventional aircraft against 26 different targets. Indian military spokesperson Vyomika Singh stated that the damage incurred was limited to just a few air force bases.
Vikram Misri, India's Foreign Secretary, argued that Pakistan's actions represented a blatant escalation, insisting that India's reactions were “responsible and measured.” The exchange of attacks on both sides signals one of the most intense military engagements since hostilities reignited earlier in the week, leaving the international community concerned about the potential for further escalation.
