Gérard Depardieu Found Guilty of Sexual Assault Charges
The veteran French actor receives an 18-month suspended sentence following a trial for assaulting two women on a film set.
On May 13, 2025, French actor Gérard Depardieu faced a Paris court verdict regarding charges of sexually assaulting two women who worked on the film "Les Volets Verts," in which he starred. The court's decision led to an 18-month suspended sentence for the veteran actor and mandated that he be placed on the sex offenders register.
During the four-day trial held in March, testimony from the set decorator, identified only as Amélie, recounted the actor's inappropriate behavior when he allegedly pulled her toward him while seated, subjecting her to unwanted contact with a barrage of vulgar remarks. Another accuser, a 34-year-old assistant director who wishes to remain unnamed, also detailed instances where Depardieu inappropriately touched her on multiple occasions while escorting him to the set.
Despite the accusations, the 76-year-old actor has continuously denied the allegations while his defense narrative has varied regarding the incident involving Amélie. The ruling aligns with the prosecutor's recommendations and marks a significant statement in the ongoing discourse surrounding sexual assault within the film industry.
