At least 13 confirmed dead and many more missing in a disaster that has swept through Bulambuli district, according to local officials.

A catastrophic landslide triggered by relentless rainfall has struck eastern Uganda, with initial reports indicating at least 13 fatalities, though authorities worry the final count could rise drastically. The disaster, which occurred in Bulambuli district, approximately 280 kilometers (178 miles) from Kampala, has obliterated over 40 homes and affected numerous villages, with children among the casualties, as highlighted by the Daily Monitor.

Rescue operations led by the Ugandan Red Cross Society are currently in full swing, with ongoing efforts to locate dozens of individuals still reported as missing. Concerns mount as flooding due to heavy rains has paralyzed the region, prompting the Office of the Prime Minister to issue a disaster warning on social media.

The torrential rains have led to overflowed riverbanks, causing extensive flooding that has impacted schools and churches, breached bridges, and isolated entire communities. To support the recovery efforts, the military has been called in.
