Florida Man Swallows Stolen Jewelry Before Arrest
A man is accused of eating Tiffany earrings worth over $769,000 just before being captured by law enforcement in Orlando.
An alleged thief in Florida has made headlines for a bizarre turn of events involving stolen jewelry. Jaythan Gilder, 32, is accused of stealing Tiffany earrings valued at more than $769,000 from a store in Orlando. According to police reports, Gilder deceived Tiffany employees by claiming he was representing a "professional athlete," which led them to showcase various high-value pieces.
Unbeknownst to the employees, Gilder had other intentions. He allegedly fled the store with the earrings and, shortly after, police caught up with him. Officers reportedly witnessed Gilder "swallowing several objects believed to be the stolen earrings" just before his arrest.
In addition to the earrings, Gilder is also accused of attempting to steal a diamond ring, which he allegedly dropped while escaping. An x-ray shared by the police showed a foreign object in an individual's abdomen, though it remains unclear if the jewelry has been successfully retrieved.
Investigations reveal that Gilder has a prior history of theft from Tiffany & Co., having robbed a store in Texas in 2022. Furthermore, police confirmed there are 48 separate warrants out for his arrest in nearby Colorado. He now faces serious charges including robbery with a mask and grand theft in the first degree for attempting to steal goods valued at over $100,000. Gilder is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
