US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are scheduled for a call soon, amid ongoing discussions about a potential ceasefire in the protracted conflict in Ukraine. US envoy Steve Witkoff disclosed during a CNN interview that he anticipates talks between the two leaders within this week, following his recent meeting with Putin in Moscow.

In light of the discussions, Witkoff emphasized continuous communication with Ukrainian officials, noting that the US is providing advice regarding the ongoing negotiations. Last week, the US and Ukraine proposed a temporary 30-day ceasefire to Russia, which Putin appeared to support yet coupled with stringent preconditions.

Witkoff expressed optimism about the forthcoming conversation, stating, "I think the two presidents are going to have a really good and positive discussion this week."
