Moscow and its neighboring regions have been jolted by a significant drone assault that officials are describing as one of the largest since the onset of the conflict in Ukraine. Reports indicate at least one fatality and three individuals injured as a result of the overnight strikes, with affected areas including towns like Vidnoye and Domodedovo, situated just outside the capital.

Regional Governor Andrei Vorobyev confirmed the casualties, stating that several residential apartments were left damaged. He released photographs illustrating the aftermath, showcasing destruction in various locales and burnt vehicles in a nearby car park. In total, seven apartments suffered damage, prompting the evacuation of 12 residents, including three children, from their homes.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that an impressive 73 of the drones aimed at the city were successfully intercepted. However, debris from one of the downed drones caused damage to the roof of a building. Following the attack, significant disruptions were implemented across the transport network, halting operations of one district train service and imposing flight restrictions at major airports including Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, and Vnukovo.

The drone attack happened mere hours before a pivotal diplomatic meeting among representatives from the United States and Ukraine in Saudi Arabia, focusing on ongoing efforts to address the war between Russia and Ukraine. In a broader context, the Russian defense ministry stated that a total of 337 Ukrainian drone attempts were either intercepted or neutralized across multiple Russian regions overnight.

As the situation unfolds, Ukraine has not publicly commented on the drone strike, while earlier reports from Ukrainian officials indicated that Russian forces had also conducted drone strikes on Kyiv and other regions, though casualty figures from those attacks remain unclear.
