**Albufeira Takes a Stand: New Swimwear Policy to Tackle Public Decorum**

**Local Authorities Seek to Enhance Family-Friendly Image Amid Rising Tourist Behavior Issues**

**Amid growing concerns about public indecency, Albufeira's new regulations prohibit swimwear in public spaces, imposing fines to safeguard its community-oriented atmosphere.**

Tourists visiting the vibrant city of Albufeira in Portugal's southern Algarve region could face hefty fines for wearing swimwear away from the beach under a newly proposed code of conduct. This popular destination, known for its picturesque coastline and bustling nightlife, will reevaluate its regulations as officials aim to curb increasing incidents of public indecency, particularly stemming from unruly tourist behavior.

The local council plans to impose fines of up to €1,500 (£1,250) for those seen in bikinis or going shirtless in public areas. This initiative is part of a broader effort to align with similar regulations in cities such as Barcelona and Dubrovnik, where bathing suits in non-beach environments have also been outlawed.

The city has grappled with its image as a party hotspot, especially following incidents like last year’s viral video of eight British men dancing naked on a prominent street, which brought police attention and community outraged. In response, Mayor José Carlos Rolo emphasized the need to maintain Albufeira's status as a multicultural, secure, and family-friendly location.

The proposal not only targets swimwear but also reinforces bans on sexual acts in public spaces—a concern for many local residents and businesses alike. Moreover, operators of establishments that permit such behavior may also incur significant fines.

Currently subject to public consultation, the new regulations aim to be enacted by the approaching summer season, with the hope that these changes will restore a sense of decorum and wellbeing for both residents and visitors in this beloved tourist destination.
