The image, which features a man loading a large white plastic bag into the trunk of a car, has sparked a breakthrough in the ongoing case, according to police statements.
The Google mapping technology, which allows users worldwide to explore street imagery taken by camera-equipped vehicles, inadvertently caught the alleged moment a body was being transported. Following the chilling discovery, authorities arrested two individuals last month—accused of being involved in the disappearance and murder of a 33-year-old Cuban man last October. The victim's dismembered remains were found unearthed in a nearby cemetery just last week.
Remarkably, the Google vehicle had not visited Tajueco in 15 years, highlighting the significance of this singular image. In addition to the photograph of the man with the plastic bag, police reported another snapshot capturing a blurred figure seemingly transporting a large white object in a wheelbarrow. Despite the impactful imagery, law enforcement stressed that these images alone were not “decisive” in the investigation.
The victim, whose identity was first revealed by Spanish newspaper El Pais, had been reported missing after perplexing text messages were sent to his relatives, leading them to express concern. The messages indicated he had met a woman and was planning to leave Spain while disposing of his phone.
On November 12, authorities took action and arrested a woman believed to be the victim's partner and a man identified as her ex-partner.
