Ukrainian Suspect Arrested for Car Bomb Attack on Russian General
The FSB detains an alleged Ukrainian spy linked to a deadly bombing targeting a senior military official in Moscow.
In a shocking development from Moscow’s suburbs, Russian security forces have arrested a suspect purportedly linked to a car bomb attack that took the life of General Yaroslav Moskalik. The Federal Security Service (FSB) claims that "Ukrainian special services agent Ignat Kuzi" was responsible for planting explosives in a Volkswagen Golf. General Moskalik, who served as the deputy head of the military's General Staff, perished on Friday after inadvertently walking past the vehicle parked outside his home in Balashikha.
According to the FSB, the suspect had designed a homemade explosive device within the car, which was remotely detonated from Ukraine. Ukrainian authorities have not issued a comment regarding the incident. The FSB stated that Kuzi had been recruited by Ukrainian forces in early 2023 and traveled to Moscow in September the same year. Reports indicate that the FSB presented video footage showing the detained man allegedly confessing to the act, as well as revealing details regarding the bomb's construction.
The Kremlin swiftly condemned Ukraine, asserting that Kyiv is continuing its involvement in terrorist activities on Russian soil. General Moskalik was notably involved in the 2015 Paris discussions aimed at executing the Minsk agreements, which ultimately failed to conclude the ongoing conflict in the Donbas region between Ukrainian forces and Russia-backed separatists, a conflict that has been ongoing since 2014. This incident comes in a backdrop of Russo-Ukrainian tensions, heightened further by Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
