Nigerian chef Hilda Baci breaks world record for largest jollof rice dish

Nigerian chef Hilda Baci has set a Guinness World Record for cooking the largest pot of jollof rice, tipping the scales at 8,780 kg. The record-breaking event took place last week in Lagos and has garnered global attention.

The cooking marathon lasted nine hours, during which time Baci and her team faced an unexpected hurdle—the enormous pot broke as it was being hoisted onto a crane for weighing. Thankfully, none of the rice was spilled, allowing the team to complete their feat successfully.

Baci praised her team's efforts, declaring, This moment isn't just mine... it belongs to all of us. The achievement underscores the communal spirit of cooking jollof rice, a dish loved across West Africa.

Despite the challenges faced during the weigh-in process, evidence was gathered to validate the record further to GWR. Baci expressed gratitude towards her team and supporters with a heartfelt message celebrating unity and collective strength.

The impressive recipe featured 4,000 kg of rice, 500 cartons of tomato paste, 600 kg of onions, and 168 kg of goat meat, all cooked in a specially made pot that can hold 23,000 liters.

Baci, famous for her culinary prowess, previously set the world record for the longest cooking marathon, and this latest achievement further cements her legacy as a prominent chef in the culinary world.

The massive quantity of jollof rice was later distributed among the audience present in the event, demonstrating the communal aspect of cooking, reminiscent of cultural traditions.
