A Palestinian man was shot dead by an Israeli during a settler attack on a village in the occupied West Bank on Wednesday evening.
A relative said Alaa Khalid Subeih, 28, was killed as he tried to defend a greenhouse from the settlers in Tayasir in the northern West Bank. A senior UN official also said he was killed by a settler.
The Israeli military claimed he was shot by an off-duty soldier who accused him of throwing stones.
Tayasir has recently become a hotspot of violence attributed to settlers. The Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank are considered illegal under international law.
The shooting comes as former Israeli security chiefs warned about increasing 'government-sponsored Jewish terrorism' in the West Bank, alongside reports of approved settlements.
Saeb Subeih described his cousin Alaa as “one of the finest young men in the village,” and stated Alaa was executed while defending his property against a settler raid.
This incident reflects the growing tensions in the West Bank, as the UN reports an increase in settler violence against Palestinians, which has become a point of contention concerning the Israeli government's policies.
