A Russian drone has slammed into a block of flats in eastern Kyiv, killing six people and injuring many others during a wave of strikes across the Ukrainian capital.
Emergency responders sifted through the wreckage in the Lisovyi area as residents described harrowing scenes. A local witness, named Vita, recounted how the drone penetrated the building, leading to a catastrophic explosion.
Ukraine has responded by intensifying its own military actions, particularly targeting Russia's oil infrastructure, including a recent strike on a major export terminal in Novorossiysk.
The aftermath of the drone strike witnessed significant destruction, with fire breaking out at the Sheskharis oil refinery and multiple casualties reported from the assault on both residential and industrial sites.
Krasnodar governor Veniamin Kondratyev confirmed that personnel from the oil facility were among those injured in the attacks, which also led to a declaration of a state of emergency in the region.
President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the drone strike as a brutal act of aggression, emphasizing that approximately 430 drones and 18 missiles had been launched, severely damaging civilian structures.
According to military administration updates, residential buildings in various districts of Kyiv were impacted, signaling an alarming escalation in hostilities. The attacks on civilian areas were described as calculated and deliberate, aiming to inflict maximum damage on non-combatants.
During the incident, vital energy infrastructure was also compromised, leading to heat shortages in parts of Kyiv amid widespread evacuations and emergency precautions.
As the crisis deepens, the Ukrainian defense forces continue to face intense aerial assaults, with mounting calls for international support to bolster their defensive capabilities against further incursions.
The conflict in Ukraine, which has claimed numerous lives and severely disrupted civilian life, continues to pose significant humanitarian challenges as both sides exchange fire amidst escalating tensions.
