At Silver Rail Elementary in Bend, Oregon, a 25‑year‑old teacher wrestled a 16‑year‑old intruder who had entered the classroom with a shotgun and attempted to wrestle the weapon from him.

The attacker, who had shot four people, was killed by an armed father with a .40 calibre pistol who happened to be passing the school. He fired multiple rounds that stopped the gunman before other victims could be reached.

The deaths include a 5‑year‑old boy and the teacher who fought the shooter, while a 7‑year‑old student and a 54‑year‑old teacher were treated for injuries.

Police say the teen had previously attended the school and that his motive remains unclear. A search warrant was executed at his home and investigations are underway.

Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz praised both the teacher and the father for preventing even greater loss of life. The father’s identity was initially kept confidential but was later linked to Kayleb Giamanco, a 36‑year‑old carpenter.

Governors and federal officials called the incident a tragic loss of life, praising the heroism of those who intervened. The case has reignited discussions on school safety and gun access for minors.
