In brief

Kyiv’s Darnytska CHP-4 power plant was hit by a Russian ballistic missile, killing two residents and injuring 21. President Volodymyr Zelensky decried the assault as an unjust attack on critical energy infrastructure and demanded worldwide accountability. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that multiple power plants were struck, causing outages and a city‑wide red alert. The strikes come amid calls for a 60‑day ceasefire and scrutiny over Russia’s continued strikes on Ukraine’s infrastructure. Trump and Russian officials contested U.S. intelligence sharing and the validity of the ceasefire, underscoring the fraught diplomatic backdrop.

Russian ballistic missiles struck Kyiv’s Darnytska CHP‑4 power plant on Tuesday night, a key energy hub that supplies heat and electricity to the Dniprovskyi and Darnytskyi districts.

The attack killed two residents, injured 21, and destroyed an adjacent residential building. President Volodymyr Zelensky said the strike came “with no early warning from our partners” and called the targeting of energy infrastructure “absolutely unjust.”

Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that several energy facilities were hit, leading to power outages in parts of the city and prompting a red alert for residents. Ukraine officials urged people to stay in shelters after the attack.

The strikes occur amid discussions of a 60‑day ceasefire that could allow President Zelensky to hold elections and amid speculation that U.S. intelligence sharing with Kyiv had been cut. Former President Trump denied cutting intelligence and said the U.S. was still helping Ukraine.

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov dismissed the ceasefire as a façade to press Europe for new weapons. The Darnytska CHP‑4 had been damaged in February, leaving over 1,000 residential buildings without heating, along with dozens of schools, kindergartens, and medical institutions.
