Malaysian Rapper Namewee Detained Amid Investigation into Influencer's Mysterious Death
Controversial Malaysian rapper Namewee has been remanded in custody in connection with the death of Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh, who was found dead in a Kuala Lumpur hotel bathtub two weeks ago.
Police allege Namewee, 42, was the last person seen with Hsieh, 31, who was in Malaysia to discuss a commercial project. Amid ongoing investigations, Namewee turned himself in to authorities early Wednesday, following reports of suspected murder reclassification of the case.
Namewee initially faced drug charges after authorities discovered ecstasy in the hotel room he shared with Hsieh. Although he denied drug use, testing positive for multiple substances led to his release on bail, only to be re-arrested as the murder investigation gained momentum.
The situation escalated over several days, with Namewee accused of fleeing once the investigation shifted focus. He took to Instagram to debunk such claims, asserting his commitment to cooperate with law enforcement: I won't run away, he assured.
