Jonathan McKinsey, 40, director of engineering for the New York Times’ games player experience division, was fatally shot in a Dublin, California, car park on Saturday afternoon.

The shooting occurred approximately 35 miles west of San Francisco, leaving McKinsey with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on scene by police.

Two suspects, 77‑year‑old Shouyong Zhang and 77‑year‑old Shili Chen, identified as McKinsey’s parents‑in‑law, have been arrested on suspicion of first‑degree murder and related charges.

Authorities say the couple were seen remaining in the area after the apparent shooting and were taken into custody minutes later by a passing officer.

McKinsey’s body was discovered at 15:00 (23:00 GMT) outside the Dublin Sports Grounds, according to police statements.

Witnesses reported hearing a flurry of gunshots before seeing McKinsey on the ground. One witness said, 'I saw the guy drop to the floor: head bloody and chest bloody.'
