Local shop owner Andrea echoes these fears, fearing the loss of her home, built by her husband, and the local graveyard that holds generations of their family. I'm scared I'll lose my house. There's so much life here. But in 10 years' time, it may be nothing, she states.
As proposals for infrastructure projects loom, such as hydrogen production factories and vast pipelines for transporting ammonia, the mayor of Moerdijk municipality, Aart Jan Moerkerke, acknowledges the pressure to comply with governmental demands. He suggests that sacrificing the village may be a necessary compromise to prevent larger disruptions across multiple communities.
Yet, many residents believe that alternatives exist, such as connecting energy sources further from their homes.
