US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has assured European leaders that the United States remains committed to the transatlantic alliance, asserting that its destiny is always intertwined with Europe. Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, Rubio declared, We do not seek to separate, but to revitalise an old friendship and renew the greatest civilisation in human history.

Although Rubio criticized European immigration, trade, and climate policies, the tone of his speech was markedly more conciliatory compared to remarks made by Vice-President JD Vance at the previous year's conference, which criticized European leadership.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen expressed her reassurance following Rubio’s speech, emphasizing the need for a strong partnership between Europe and the US. She stated, We want a strong Europe. And this is, I think, the message of today.

Rubio reiterated that ending the transatlantic collaboration is neither a goal nor a wish for the US, highlighting the need for Europe to invest more in defense while maintaining constructive dialogue surrounding their differences. He specifically cited the need for both regions to work together to ensure collective strength against adversaries.

In examining global challenges, Rubio criticized the United Nations for its ineffectiveness in resolving conflicts, including those in Gaza and Ukraine, while also questioning Russia's intentions regarding the war in Ukraine. He affirmed the commitment of the United States to continue testing Russia’s seriousness in pursuing peace.
