Jair Bolsonaro's Medical Procedures: Hiccups and Hernia

Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has received a medical procedure to treat his chronic hiccups, his medical team has reported. The treatment, which occurred on Saturday, was described as successful and lasted about an hour, according to attending physician Claudio Birolini.
Bolsonaro, currently serving a 27-year sentence for conspiracy after losing the 2022 presidential elections, recently underwent surgery for a double hernia. His hiccups had persisted for nine months, prompting the need for treatment after his hernia operation earlier this week.
His wife, Michelle Bolsonaro, detailed the process on social media, explaining that the procedure involved blocking one of his phrenic nerves while medical staff confirmed they treated the right nerve and planned to address the left one shortly thereafter.
Despite his ongoing imprisonment, Bolsonaro remains active politically, having endorsed his son Flávio for the upcoming 2026 presidential elections. As he continues serving his sentence in a federal police facility, the Supreme Court recently ordered house arrest for several officials connected to his coup attempt.
