Crimea gun rampage: soldier kills four, including civilians
Four people were killed in an abrupt shooting by an armed serviceman in the Russian‑occupied peninsula of Crimea. The incident began when the soldier fired on two fellow troops, killing one and wounding another. He then moved on to the village of Khmelnytske, where he killed a 64‑year‑old woman and two men aged 71 and 59. Three other individuals suffered injuries.
Moscow‑installed governor Mikhail Razvozhayev confirms that the attacker has been detained and that authorities are probing his motive. The soldier’s identity and the military unit he served in remain undisclosed. Officials are urging the public to rely on official statements and to avoid spreading unverified rumours.
Crimea fell under Russian control in 2014 and remains a flash‑point between Ukraine and Russia. The region hosts a large Russian military presence that Ukraine has targeted through drone and missile strikes. The latest incident underscores the volatility that still prevails in the contested peninsula.
