PROVIDENCE, R.I. — In the wake of a devastating shooting at Brown University, local law enforcement and the FBI are actively gathering evidence to identify the assailant who killed two students and injured nine others during an exam preparation session.

Authorities canvassed the area surrounding the university, hoping to find relevant video footage after releasing three clips showing a suspect dressed in a dark jacket and mask shortly before the attack. In a recent press briefing, Police Chief Oscar Perez emphasized the need for public assistance, urging anyone who recognizes the suspect to come forward.

The FBI has described the suspect as approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall and stocky, offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. The man was seen on campus only hours before the tragic shooting, which has prompted widespread concern about safety at the institution.

Officials have expressed frustration over the security lapses that may have allowed the shooter to enter the building unnoticed. The lockdown of the campus was briefly lifted after authorities detained a person of interest, only to release him as the investigation shifted its focus.

The community is rallying to support the families of the victims. Ella Cook, a 19-year-old sophomore, and MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an 18-year-old freshman, were both remembered fondly by friends and family for their contributions and aspirations.

With many questions remaining about the timeline of events and how the assailant gained access to the classroom, community leaders and state officials are calling for stronger measures to ensure student safety on campuses. Brown University plans a service of lament and healing to honor the victims and support those affected by the tragedy.
