ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Timothy Busfield, the Emmy Award-winning actor known for his roles in 'The West Wing' and 'Field of Dreams,' is facing grave legal issues as child sex abuse charges have been brought against him. These allegations stem from reports that he inappropriately touched two minors while on the set of a New Mexico-based television series, 'The Cleaning Lady.'

Busfield was ordered to be held without bond after a court appearance earlier this month. He has publicly labeled the accusations as false and misleading in a video shared through social media prior to his surrendering to authorities. His wife, fellow actor Melissa Gilbert, is expected to appear as a potential witness in Busfield's upcoming detention hearing.

The Albuquerque Police Department issued an arrest warrant for Busfield on counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor and child abuse after a child disclosed to a therapist that he had been inappropriately touched by Busfield. The incidents reportedly occurred when the child was aged seven and eight.

In response to the allegations, Busfield's legal team submitted audio recordings from initial police interviews in which the children allegedly denied that any inappropriate touching occurred. They argue that the interviews show an 'unequivocal denial' of the abuse claims and that these charges have emerged post the family’s involvement with the show, suggesting a motive in retaliation.

Further complicating the case are filings suggesting that past accusations against both parents of the boys have included fraud, and findings from investigations by Warner Bros. into these allegations returned unfounded results. Busfield's defense states that he has passed an independent polygraph test, and his legal counsel asserts that New Mexico courts allow for polygraph evidence under specific conditions.

As the case unfolds, public scrutiny and media attention continue to mount, keeping both the entertainment community and the public riveted to this unfolding legal drama.
