GRAND BLANC, Mich. — A tragic shooting incident occurred on Sunday morning at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, about 50 miles north of Detroit. Police reported that one individual was killed and nine others were injured. The shooter has also been confirmed dead, and authorities assert that there is no ongoing risk to the public. The shooting prompted an immediate response from law enforcement, which included securing the area surrounding the church, located near a residential area and another place of worship. Governor Gretchen Whitmer shared her sorrow regarding the tragedy, emphasizing that violence, especially in sacred spaces, is utterly unacceptable. The incident took place just a day after the church mourned the loss of its oldest president, Russell M. Nelson, who passed away at the age of 101. According to church protocols, Dallin H. Oaks is expected to succeed Nelson as the next president of the Mormon faith.
