PARIS (FPQD) — French President Emmanuel Macron prides himself on his rapport with U.S. President Donald Trump. This was evident during his recent trip to New York for the U.N. General Assembly.
On Monday night, Macron encountered a police blockade while trying to reach his diplomatic mission, prompting him to directly call Trump. “How are you?” Macron said over the phone. “Guess what? I’m waiting in the street because everything is frozen for you!”
Sources indicate Trump was indeed on the line, adding gravity to the moment captured by French media. Macron was trying to make his way to the French diplomatic mission after delivering a pivotal speech at the United Nations announcing France's recognition of Palestinian statehood.
“I have 10 people with me,” Macron explained to police, requesting to pass through the blockade. Despite the officer's apologies, stating, “it’s just that everything’s frozen right now,” Macron turned this moment into an opportunity to engage further with Trump, suggesting a need to discuss the situation in Gaza with Qatar.
Later on, the street reopened and Macron was able to continue on his way, demonstrating how effective communication can pave the path for diplomatic dialogues even amidst logistical challenges.
Macron's recognition of Palestinian statehood was seen as a crucial step in stimulating support for a two-state solution in the ongoing Middle East conflict.
