In a major operation conducted by An Garda Síochána, approximately 72 kilograms of cocaine, valued at €5 million (£4 million), was seized in the Allenwood area of County Kildare. The operation unfolded on Wednesday when police executed a stop and search on a vehicle and a residential property linked to an organised crime group.
The two men arrested, aged in their 50s and 60s, have been charged with involvement in drug distribution and are expected to appear before Naas District Court on Thursday. This latest seizure highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat drug trafficking and its associated violence within communities across Ireland.
Assistant Commissioner Angela Willis from the Organised and Serious Crime unit remarked on the operation's significance, stating it is another substantial hit against cocaine trafficking aimed at the Irish market.
