**Mexican Navy Ship Collides with Brooklyn Bridge, Leaving Two Dead and Many Injured**

**Tragic maritime accident unfolds in New York City as a Mexican Navy ship crashes into the iconic Brooklyn Bridge.**

**A catastrophic accident involving the Cuauhtémoc has resulted in two fatalities and numerous injuries, raising questions about maritime safety compliance and emergency response.**

In a devastating maritime incident, two individuals have lost their lives and at least 19 more have sustained injuries following the collision of a tall sailing ship belonging to the Mexican Navy with New York's Brooklyn Bridge. Authorities reported that the Cuauhtémoc experienced a total power failure on Saturday while navigating under the bridge, leading the vessel to veer uncontrollably towards the bridge supports on the Brooklyn side.

Eyewitness footage captured alarming moments as the ship's towering masts collided with the bridge; witnesses recounted scenes of chaos as sailors were seen precariously perched on the fallen masts, which subsequently crashed down onto the deck. Local resident Nick Corso described the ensuing panic, stating that bystanders erupted in screams and confusion as the disaster unfolded.

New York City's Mayor Eric Adams took to social media platform X to confirm the unfortunate deaths and update the public that two of the injured remained in critical condition. Initial assessments indicated that a mechanical failure, compounded by a loss of power, was likely at the root of the accident. Remarkably, after a brief evaluation, authorities confirmed that the Brooklyn Bridge did not suffer major damage and was promptly reopened to the public.

According to the New York Coast Guard, the Cuauhtémoc lost all three of its masts during the collision. Fortunately, all personnel aboard the vessel were accounted for, with no reports of anyone falling into the water. Witness Kelvin Flores recounted the aftermath of the crash, describing a scene filled with emergency responders trying to assist the injured, amidst heavy traffic obstructing access to the area.

Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed profound sorrow over the loss of two crew members in this tragic disaster. The Cuauhtémoc, measuring 297 feet in length and 40 feet in width, is a historic training ship that embarked on its maiden voyage in 1982. The ship had set sail from Acapulco on April 6 with aspirations of traveling to Iceland, stopping along the way for the Tall Ships race in Aberdeen, Scotland in July.

Authorities have initiated investigations to uncover the detailed circumstances surrounding this tragic event, reflecting on the operational protocols concerning maritime safety and the urgent need for comprehensive reviews of naval navigations amidst urban environments.
