Manoj Kumar, an iconic figure in Indian cinema known for his works that inspired national pride, has passed away, leaving behind a remarkable legacy.



Veteran Bollywood actor and director Manoj Kumar has passed away at the age of 87 in Mumbai, India. Dr. Santosh Shetty from Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital confirmed that Kumar succumbed to "age-related health complications.” His son, Kunal Goswami, disclosed that Kumar had been facing health challenges for a considerable period.

Born Harikrishan Goswami in Punjab in 1937, Kumar rose to fame during the 1960s and 1970s with a series of patriotic films that resonated deeply with the Indian audience. Notable works such as "Shaheed," "Roti Kapada Aur Makaan," and "Kranti," showcased his unique ability to intertwine cinema with themes of national pride, earning him a special place in Hindi film history.

Over his illustrious career, Kumar garnered numerous accolades, including the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian award, and the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, recognizing his significant contributions to Indian cinema.

The news of his passing prompted an outpouring of tributes on social media. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi referred to Kumar as an "icon of Indian cinema," praising his ability to evoke a sense of national pride through his work, stating that his legacy will resonate with future generations. Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit echoed the sentiment, expressing that Kumar's loss is a monumental one for the film industry, which will deeply miss his presence.
