Authorities suspect inside aid may have facilitated an audacious jailbreak by ten inmates in New Orleans.
Ten inmates have reportedly escaped from the Orleans Parish Jail in New Orleans, and authorities believe that inside help may have played a role in their audacious jailbreak. This incident unfolded around midnight, with the individuals reported missing during a headcount at 08:30 am local time. As of now, only one of the escapees has been recaptured, prompting intense investigation and searches for the remaining fugitives.
Sheriff Susan Huston remarked, "There’s no way for anyone to get out of this facility without help," reinforcing concerns that the prison break involved staff complicity. The inmates managed to dismantle their cell door and breaching the facility's security infrastructure, including removing a toilet and breaking through metal bars. Taunting messages, including “To Easy LoL,” were discovered on the walls, presumably left behind by the escapees.
Among the escapees, Kendall Myles was apprehended in the French Quarter after being spotted via facial recognition technology. He attempted to evade capture but was found hiding under a vehicle and has since been returned to custody with an added charge of Simple Escape.
While initially reported that eleven prisoners had escaped, the numbers were corrected to ten. Authorities now describe the remaining escapees as "armed and dangerous" and continue to pursue leads, including seeking assistance from the FBI and U.S. Marshals.
Law enforcement officials are also reaching out to ensure that victims connected to the escapees are notified, given that many face serious charges, including murder. Police chief Anne Kirkpatrick has called the situation “urgent and serious,” appealing to the public for any information that could assist in recapturing the fugitives. Concerns regarding those who may have aided the escape remain high, with warnings that accomplices will face charges if identified. The Orleans Parish Jail, located near downtown New Orleans, is significantly close to several bustling areas, further complicating the search efforts.
