Irish Rugby Player Sentenced to 14 Years for Rape in Bordeaux
Denis Coulson, a former Irish international, was convicted for his role in a 2017 assault.
Former Ireland U20 rugby star Denis Coulson received a 14-year prison sentence on Friday after being found guilty of raping a woman in Bordeaux, France, in 2017. In the same court session, Chris Farrell, part of Ireland's Grand Slam-winning 2018 squad, was sentenced to four years, with two years suspended, for failing to prevent the crime, while also being required to wear an electronic tag for two years and remain in France. The court heard that Coulson and Farrell, along with three other former teammates from FC Grenoble, faced serious charges. Two additional players, Loick Jammes from France and Rory Grice from New Zealand, received 14 and 12 years sentences for their roles in the assaults, respectively. The fifth defendant, Dylan Hayes, from New Zealand, was given a two-year suspended sentence for failing to prevent a crime. All five men had previously denied the accusations.
