In a heart-wrenching story of survival, Viswash Kumar Ramesh, 38, found himself unharmed amidst the wreckage of Air India Flight 171, a catastrophic incident that claimed the lives of 241 individuals on board. As the only survivor of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner disaster, Ramesh's miraculous escape has left his loved ones grappling with shock and sorrow.
Flight 171 was en route from Ahmedabad, India to London when disaster struck shortly after takeoff. Ramesh, who was returning home from a holiday, managed to contact his family in Leicester, England from the crash site, relaying his bewilderment at being alive. "I don’t know how I am alive," he told his younger brother, Nayan Ramesh.
Witnesses gathered outside the Ramesh family home, where sadness enveloped the community following the tragedy. Nayan, deeply affected by the loss of his brother Ajay, who was also on the flight, described the emotional turmoil as his family learned of Viswash’s survival amidst the overwhelming grief.

During a video call with his father from the wreckage, Ramesh expressed shock at the unfolding disaster. He mentioned, "I can’t see my brother. I can’t see any other passengers," as the gravity of the situation began to settle in.
