Kangaroo Engages in Struggle with Man Amidst Flood in Australia
A dramatic encounter in Port Macquarie sees a kangaroo attempting to drown a man as floodwaters rise.
A brazen kangaroo has left one man in shock after it reportedly tried to drown him during flash flooding in Port Macquarie, Australia. Don James was caught in a perilous confrontation with the kangaroo, which witnesses believe was distressed from being trapped in rising waters. Kristy Lees, who watched the unusual scene unfold from her vehicle, described how the kangaroo charged at her car before focusing its aggression on James, leading to an unexpected brawl between the two.
The chaos began when Kristy and her husband drove to assess the conditions on North Shore's waters. Upon encountering the kangaroo, which was notably large, they were warned by two other men of the animal's presence. Ms. Lees recounted the moment the kangaroo launched itself at her car, soon turning its attention towards James, who was moving away from the scene.
Witnessing the ensuing fight from her rear-view mirror, Kristy observed as James and the kangaroo exchanged blows in what resembled a boxing match. The situation escalated further when James fell into a nearby pool of floodwaters, at which point the kangaroo seemingly decided to hold him down beneath the surface. Alarmed, Kristy urged her husband to assist James, but before help could arrive, the kangaroo appeared to be startled by an approaching vehicle, allowing James to escape.
In a later recounting of the incident, James vividly remembered feeling trapped underwater, adding that the experience was quite traumatic for him. Kangaroo ecologist Graeme Coulson explained that while kangaroos will often go to water when threatened, the action is more instinctive self-defense rather than an attempt to drown another creature, casting an intriguing light on this feral encounter. Despite the scientific perspective, James remains shaken, having endured another animal attack only a year ago from a great white shark.
