Don James was caught in a perilous confrontation with the kangaroo, which witnesses believe was distressed from being trapped in rising waters. Kristy Lees, who watched the unusual scene unfold from her vehicle, described how the kangaroo charged at her car before focusing its aggression on James, leading to an unexpected brawl between the two.
The chaos began when Kristy and her husband drove to assess the conditions on North Shore's waters. Upon encountering the kangaroo, which was notably large, they were warned by two other men of the animal's presence. Ms. Lees recounted the moment the kangaroo launched itself at her car, soon turning its attention towards James, who was moving away from the scene.
Witnessing the ensuing fight from her rear-view mirror, Kristy observed as James and the kangaroo exchanged blows in what resembled a boxing match. The situation escalated further when James fell into a nearby pool of floodwaters, at which point the kangaroo seemingly decided to hold him down beneath the surface.
