A 38-year-old individual has been apprehended and is facing serious charges following an alleged arson incident at the official residence of Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, as confirmed by officials. Cody Balmer has been charged with several offenses, including attempted murder, terrorism, aggravated arson, and aggravated assault. The arrest occurred shortly after Shapiro was roused in the middle of the night by law enforcement as flames engulfed parts of his home. Addressing the media during a press conference, Shapiro expressed his emotional state, reflecting on the dramatic events. Fortunately, he and his family escaped without harm, although their residence in Harrisburg sustained significant damage.

Shapiro shared that he and his family had recently marked the first evening of Passover, a Jewish tradition, just hours prior to the incident. The governor recounted a moment from the celebration held in their dining room, bringing attention to Balmer’s unclear motives. Authorities reported that Balmer possessed a homemade incendiary device when seized and managed to bypass security measures to spark the fire, which is currently under investigation.

Fire officials noted that the blaze had been controlled but resulted in considerable property damage. While the governor and his family were situated in a safe area of the house, local fire crews worked diligently to extinguish the fire, allowing police to ensure the family's swift evacuation. Investigators had previously announced a $10,000 reward for tips leading to an arrest, although it remains unknown if this offer contributed to Balmer's capture.
