United Airlines Faces Widespread Delays Due to Technical Failures
Passengers stranded as United Airlines experiences significant flight disruptions following a technology glitch.
Passengers of United Airlines saw significant delays recently after the airline encountered "technology issues," which prompted a temporary halt to its flights across some of the busiest airports in the United States. The ground stop, which took effect at approximately 22:00 EDT on Wednesday (02:00 GMT Thursday), impacted major hubs such as Chicago, Denver, Houston, San Francisco, and New Jersey.
United Airlines announced that the technology issue had been resolved by midnight EDT, but passengers were left to navigate the aftermath of the disruption. According to flight tracking service FlightAware, over 700 flights were delayed by 21:00 EDT (02:00 BST), as planes that had already taken off continued their journeys, avoiding immediate impacts.
Passengers, however, shared frustrating experiences on social media. Jessica Jeffers, a traveler stuck on a plane in Denver waiting for a flight to Newark, described a tough situation. "It's been pretty rough over here," she stated, echoing sentiments of many who found themselves trapped on tarmacs, waiting for updates.
In response to the extensive delays, United Airlines indicated they would treat the incident as a preventable delay, thus offering to cover certain expenses incurred by affected passengers. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed he was briefed on the situation and clarified that the technical problems were not linked to the nationwide air traffic control system in the US.
