Tensions Rise as Russian Drone Strikes Target Ukraine Post-Truce

In the early hours following a 30-hour truce, Ukraine has reported multiple drone attacks by Russian forces across several regions, marking a significant escalation in hostilities.

Ukraine's military has confirmed a series of Russian drone strikes that erupted soon after the Moscow-declared "Easter truce" came to an end. Reports indicate that drone alerts were issued for crucial regions including Kyiv, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk, Cherkasy, Mykolaiv, and Zaporizhzhia. Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych of Mykolaiv reported that loud explosions were heard in the southern city, though initial reports do not confirm any casualties.

Despite Ukraine's claims of ongoing attacks, Russian military officials have yet to comment on the situation. The truce, which was established by President Vladimir Putin, officially expired at midnight, Moscow time, with both nations trading accusations of ceasefire violations.

Due to the escalating threat of drone strikes, officials in various Ukrainian cities, including the capital, have urged residents to seek shelter immediately.

In a related development, U.S. President Donald Trump, advocating for peace negotiations, expressed hope that Russia and Ukraine might reach a deal within the week but offered no specific details about the proposed agreements. The conflict, which began with Russia's full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, has left a devastating impact, with an estimated death toll in the hundreds of thousands, primarily among armed forces on both sides.

Last month, Russia presented a comprehensive list of demands in response to a proposed unconditional ceasefire brokered by the U.S. and Ukraine, indicating that tensions may remain high in the near future.
