NORTH CODORUS, Pa. — Law enforcement are investigating a tragic incident that occurred Wednesday when a shooting left three officers dead and two others injured in southern Pennsylvania.

The shooting unfolded in York County amid efforts by the police to follow up on a domestic-related investigation that began earlier in the week. In a swift confrontation, police killed the shooter.

As the news broke, hours later, community members gathered together, holding American flags and saluting as police and emergency vehicles formed a solemn procession to the coroner’s office.

Gov. Josh Shapiro condemned the violence during a press conference, addressing the tragic loss of life. Attorney General Pamela Bondi echoed similar sentiments, highlighting that violence against police is a serious issue facing society.

This incident marks one of the deadliest days for Pennsylvania police in recent history. The state has witnessed similar tragic shootings, notably in 2009 when three officers from Pittsburgh were ambushed during a domestic call.

In the aftermath, police departments across the region expressed their condolences on social media, with many leaving flowers at the Northern York Regional Police Department headquarters in honor of the fallen officers.

The investigation encompasses multiple locations within York County, according to state police statements.

Dirk Anderson, a neighbor, recounted hearing numerous shots from his home nearby and witnessing a significant police response, including helicopters.

The two injured officers currently remain in critical but stable condition at a local hospital.

Authorities have not yet identified the shooter or the officers involved pending the investigation.
