In a tragic turn of events, three police officers lost their lives, and two others were critically injured in a shooting incident in North Codorus Township, Pennsylvania. Authorities reported that the officers were responding to a 'domestic-related' investigation when the shooting occurred just after 14:00 local time.
Colonel Christopher Paris, Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner, confirmed that the gunman was fatally shot by the police during the confrontation. Images from the scene captured the moment when one officer was airlifted via medical helicopter.
The nearby Spring Grove School District took precautions by sheltering in place, but later confirmed that the school had not been directly affected by the shooting.
Officials reassured the public that there was no ongoing threat. The incident took place roughly 100 miles west of Philadelphia in a rural area. The investigation had been initiated the previous day, although details remain limited due to the ongoing nature of the inquiry.
Governor Josh Shapiro visited the families of the deceased officers, expressing profound grief over their loss. “We grieve for the loss of life of three precious souls who served this county, served this commonwealth, served this country,” he stated. Shapiro ordered state flags to be flown at half-mast to honor their service.
FBI Director Kash Patel also extended support, stating that agents were on site to assist local and state law enforcement. “Our prayers are with the officers, their families, and the entire York County community,” Patel remarked in a statement.
