A second incident of suspected sabotage has disrupted life in the French Riviera, with a substantial power outage hitting Nice following a fire at a local substation. Around 45,000 households were left without power in the early hours of Sunday, just one day after a massive blackout in Cannes, attributed to potential sabotage efforts during the bustling Cannes Film Festival.

Local police reported discovering "tire tracks" and damage to the substation's door, suggesting a forced entry that aligns with an act of malice. The situation affected not only homes but also services, including Nice Airport and the local tramway network, before power was restored later that morning.

Mayor Christian Estrosi took to social media platform X to voice his strong condemnation of these "malicious acts" that threaten community safety. Deputy Mayor Gaël Nofri echoed this sentiment, claiming the fire stemming from the substation was likely "of criminal origin."

The earlier blackout in Cannes, which left approximately 160,000 customers in the dark, sparked a wave of disruptions, including interruptions to film screenings. Festival organizers managed to mitigate the losses by resorting to private generators.
