"Tragic Loss: Italian Hero Sniffer Dog Killed by Nail-Filled Sausages"
A beloved Italian sniffer dog named Bruno, known for his heroic searches, was killed after consuming sausages laced with nails in a suspected act of revenge.
An Italian sniffer dog, Bruno, has tragically lost his life after consuming sausages stuffed with nails that were maliciously thrown into his kennel. The incident was reported by his trainer, Arcangelo Caressa, who described the dog as a "hero" for his exceptional work in locating nine missing persons throughout his career. Bruno, a seven-year-old bloodhound, received praise from Italy's Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, who denounced the "vile, cowardly, unacceptable" act on social media, expressing gratitude for Bruno's service.
Caressa revealed that he believes he knows the perpetrators behind the heinous act and vowed to seek justice. It is suspected that the dog was killed in retaliation for his successful role in breaking up dog fighting operations. The heartbroken trainer expressed his devastation on Facebook, stating, "Today I died with you," after discovering Bruno's lifeless body in his kennel at the Endas search and rescue training center in Taranto, Puglia.
"You fought your whole life to save humans and now it was a human who did this to you," Caressa lamented, underscoring the betrayal he feels. In light of the tragedy, Italy's police and prosecutor's office have initiated a joint investigation into the incident. Mr. Caressa has voiced his awareness of threats against him leading up to Bruno's death, emphasizing that the act was neither random nor without motive. "This is a vile attack, done for money and revenge," he stated.
Italian MP Michela Vittoria Brambilla, an advocate for animal rights, has called for the culprits to be brought to justice and highlighted that Bruno's killing may be attributed to his role in combating the dog fighting industry. Under a newly enhanced law that she championed, those who kill animals through torture could face up to four years in prison and significant fines. Brambilla has urged the application of this law in Bruno's case, noting the "long and painful death" he faced due to the inflicted injuries. "We owe it to this noble animal," she concluded, echoing the sentiments of many mourning Bruno's untimely death.
