A small aircraft tragically crashed into a busy street in São Paulo’s Barra Funda neighborhood at approximately 7:20 a.m. local time on Friday, leading to the deaths of both occupants within the plane and injuring several individuals on the ground. According to the city's fire department, six people sustained minor injuries; among them was a motorcyclist who was riding nearby, while five others were passengers on a bus that was struck by debris from the aircraft, as confirmed by Captain Ronaldo Melo, the fire department spokesman.
The fire department responded to the incident shortly before 7:30 a.m., encountering a scene of chaos with both the plane and the bus engulfed in flames. Captain Melo described the fire as “very aggressive,” but noted that all passengers on the bus managed to escape prior to the flames igniting.
Social media footage captured the frightening aftermath, showing the burning remnants of the plane and a large plume of smoke billowing into the sky. The cause of the crash remains unclear at this time; however, it appeared the plane lost control shortly after taking off. It crashed onto Avenida Marques de São Vicente, a major thoroughfare located about four miles from Campo de Marte Airport, from which it had departed on a journey to Porto Alegre, located nearly 700 miles south of São Paulo.
Approximately three hours following the incident, the fire department had cleared the site, leaving authorities to further investigate the cause of this tragic accident.
