Crown Princess Mette-Marit's Son Detained for Alleged Rape in Oslo

The shocking arrest of Marius Borg Høiby raises concerns about the Norwegian royal family's reputation.

Marius Borg Høiby, son of Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit, has been arrested in Oslo under suspicion of rape, amidst a backdrop of multiple other charges, intensifying scrutiny on the Norwegian royal family.

Marius Borg Høiby, the 27-year-old son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit, was taken into custody by Norwegian police late Monday night as investigations continue into a range of serious allegations against him. Currently held in a detention center in Oslo, Høiby faces a charge of rape related to a sexual act with an individual who was "unconscious or unable to resist." This adds to an already troubling array of charges he faces from incidents involving four additional alleged victims.

The incident leading to his recent arrest reportedly involved Høiby in a vehicle with another victim, stemming from a separate case still under investigation. In addition to the rape allegation, Høiby is facing charges of violence, criminal damage, maltreatment in close relationships, and a breach of a restraining order connected to an ongoing situation involving the same victim. Authorities have also noted a charge regarding driving without a valid license.

While Høiby has denied the charges against him, local media reports indicate that these incidents have put the royal family under intense scrutiny, and the Norwegian palace has opted not to comment following recent developments. Further investigations have seen police search Høiby’s residence at Skaugum, the official home of Crown Prince Haakon and Mette-Marit.

Prior to these allegations, Høiby had been charged with offenses related to former relationships, including abuse against ex-girlfriends Juliane Snekkestad and Nora Haukland, as well as threats made against another man. The unfolding situation continues to captivate and disturb both the public and royal observers in Norway.
