Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte, are planning to present photographic and scientific evidence to a US court to prove Mrs. Macron is indeed a woman. Their lawyer stated that the French president and Mrs. Macron will submit documentation as part of a defamation lawsuit against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has accused Brigitte Macron of being born male.
Owens' legal team has responded with a motion to dismiss the claim. Speaking on the BBC's Fame Under Fire podcast, the couple's attorney, Tom Clare, noted that Brigitte Macron found these allegations incredibly upsetting and they served as a distraction to the president.
Mr. Clare explained that while he would not disclose the specifics of the scientific evidence, the couple is prepared to demonstrate thoroughly that the allegations are false, stating, It is a process that she will have to subject herself to in a very public way. But she's willing to do it. She is firmly resolved to do what it takes to set the record straight. He emphasized the emotional burden this situation poses, both to the couple and particularly to Mrs. Macron.
When asked if pictures of Brigitte during her pregnancies and raising children would be included, Mr. Clare confirmed that such evidence exists and would be presented according to court standards. The claims originated in fringe online spaces, specifically from a 2021 YouTube video by French bloggers Amandine Roy and Natacha Rey. The Macrons previously won a defamation suit in France against these bloggers, but the ruling was overturned on appeal in 2025.
The Macrons have sought recourse in the US against Owens, contending that she disregarded credible evidence in favor of promoting conspiracy theories. To prevail in this defamation case, they must meet the American legal requirement of proving actual malice on Owens' part.
