KUALA LUMPUR, Nov. 6 – According to official statistics released by the Department of Statistics Malaysia, the Services Producer Price Index (SPPI) rose 3.6 percent year‑on‑year in the third quarter of 2026, outpacing the 2.9 percent increase recorded in the previous quarter.
Among the sub‑sectors that comprise the SPPI, the arts, entertainment and recreation index registered the highest increase at 8.2 percent, largely driven by other amusement and recreation activities. The accommodation and food and beverage services index climbed 6.5 percent, supported by restaurant and mobile food service activities and beverage service activities. Transportation services recorded a 6.3 percent rise, mainly due to passenger air transport.
Other components saw more moderate gains: education added 2.2 percent, health, real‑estate and professional services each rose by 1.7 percent, 1.3 percent and 1.0 percent respectively. The information and communication sector edged up 0.4 percent, aided by increases in data processing and computer‑related activities.
Quarter‑on‑Quarter Movement
When measured against the previous quarter, the SPPI increased 0.7 percent, compared with a 1.1 percent rise earlier in the year. This indicates a slower acceleration at the quarterly level, despite the robust year‑on‑year growth.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia stressed that the observed year‑to‑year uptick reflects strong demand across the service economy. While the rate of increase accelerated compared to Q2, the pace of quarterly growth suggests a gradual easing in price pressures as the first half of the year progressed.
No mention has been made of any uncertainties or pending revisions to the numbers. The report thus presents a straightforward upward trajectory for services inflation in Malaysia during the third quarter of 2026.
In the absence of any highlighted uncertainties, the current data record solely the observed increases across the various sub‑sectors.
